Deloris "Dee" Cunningham, 88, of Hansell, Iowa, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2015, at the Franklin Country View Nursing Facility in Hampton. She was born on October 31, 1926, in Wellsburg, Iowa, to John and Katie (Hoodjer) Harms. Dee attended school in Renwick, Iowa, and when she started country school at age 5, she was only able to speak German. One of her favorite school memories is being the champion speller of the 7th grade. Dee did not finish high school because she was needed at home to take care of her siblings due to her mother's health issues. Dee contracted rheumatic fever at age 16 and she suffered the ill effects of it for the rest of her life. At age 18, she was well enough to go back to work and got a job in the cafeteria at the Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, Iowa, and that is where she met an Army meat inspector who later became her husband. She was united in marriage to Sgt. Orrin Cunningham from Heron Lake, Minnesota, on September 6, 1947, in Clarion, Iowa. Dee was a housewife and farm wife. She was a member of the Hansell/West Fork United Methodist Church. Dee enjoyed collecting antiques, gardening, quilting, going to auctions, and she was well-known in the community for her painting and wall papering skills. Over the last few years, she was a member of the Hansell City Council. Dee's biggest enjoyment came from spending time with her family. She loved attending her children's and grandchildren's many activities. The Cunningham house was known for welcoming friends and family and Dee loved cooking for all of them.

Dee is survived by her husband Orrin Cunningham of Hansell, son Robert Cunningham of Hansell, son Justin Cunningham of Hansell, daughter Jill (Roger) Ray of Olathe, Kansas, daughter Renae Cunningham of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, grandchildren Mitchel (Lauren) Ray of Olathe, Kansas, Nathen Cunningham of Stewartville, Minnesota, Christina (James) Dreier of Klemme, Taylor Holland of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Tyler Ray of Olathe, Kansas, Nicholas Pohlman and Matthew Pohlman, great-grandchildren Ayla Dreier, Keagan Dreier and Cheyanne Dreier, brothers Gene (Shirley) Harms of Baraboo, Wisconsin, Wendell (Bobbie) Harms of Anaheim, California, and Roger (Diana) Harms of Bella Vista, Arkansas, sisters Caroline (Willie) Kruse of Lone Rock, Imogene Furman of Hampton, and Sharon Aalfs of Coulter, sister-in-law Mary Cunningham of Clyde, Ohio, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Dee was preceded in death by her parents John and Katie Harms, brothers John Harms and Duane Harms, grandson Mike Pohlman, nephew Marlyn Furman and brother-in-laws John Aalfs, Dale Furman, Larry Cunningham, Thurlow Cunningham and Merritt Cunningham.
