Larry Lockwood, 81, of Sheffield passed away Monday, September 18, 2017 at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 23rd at Zion St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sheffield, IA. Pastor Kim Wills and Pastor Jennifer Henry will be officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.. Friday at Zion St. John Lutheran Church, Sheffield. Burial will be at the West Fork Cemetery in rural Sheffield. Memorial gifts may be sent to Hospice of North Iowa and Zion St. John Lutheran Church in Sheffield.

Larry was born September 14th, 1936 in Hampton, IA to Paul and Gretchen Lockwood. He graduated from Sheffield High School in 1954 and attended Iowa State College graduating with a Masters degree in Agricultural Education. He then taught Vo.Ag. in Maxwell, and later in Grundy Center.

In 1961, he married Charlotte Hartwig, and they were blessed with two children, Wendy Marie and Mark David. Charlotte passed away in 1972.

In 1974 Larry married Jan Boedecker and in1982 they moved to Sheffield, where they opened the Lockwood Insurance Agency, which they operated until retirement in 2000.

Since then, they have spent the winter months in Gold Canyon, AZ, where Larry’s favorite pastime was ATV riding in the desert with a special group of friends. Larry was a talented woodworker, enjoyed years of hunting, fishing, and golfing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was known for his “dry” humor and long stories!

Larry was preceded in death by first wife Charlotte, a baby brother David, his parents, and two sets of in-laws, two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law. Larry is survived by wife Jan, daughter Wendy (Mike Schramm), son Mark (Jodi), and seven grandchildren- Mari, Aaron, and Cory Schramm, John, Peter, Rebecca, and Mary Lockwood, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
