Leland Earl Lane was born in Mist, Oregon on January 16, 1927 to Ernest Earl Lane and Johanna Lane (Parkinen). He died peacefully in his sleep on September 5, 2017 in Vancouver, Washington. Leland grew up in rural Columbia County, went to several Oregon high schools before graduating from Molalla High. Leland ran track at both Lincoln and Molalla High and participated in the state track meet in the high hurdles. It took many years to graduate from Lewis and Clark College because Leland alternated one year of work with one year of study. Meeting Gloriann Robinson on a blind date changed the direction of his life. She encouraged him to continue his education and become a doctor. He already had degrees in Chiropractic and Naturopathic Medicines. They were married August 31, 1952 and headed to Des Moines, Iowa where Leland received his medical degree at Des Moines Osteopathic College Of Medicine. Moving back to Portland, Oregon Leland spent time earning his Radiology degree. He practiced for many years in Forest Grove at the community hospital. In 1982, Lee and Gloriann moved to Iowa where he practice radiology at the community hospital in Hampton and Belmont from 1982 to 1997. After retirement, he and Gloriann moved back to the Northwest settling in Vancouver, Washington to be close to family.

Leland had many hobbies to keep him busy. Gloriann and Leland loved to travel and took trips to China, Russia, Western and Eastern Europe and to many states. The most memorable trips were family ones to Banff National Park in Alberta Canada and an Alaskan cruise. Leland loved skiing and was on the Mt. Hood Ski Patrol for more than 11 years. He designed and made beautiful jewelry, ultimately crafting wedding rings for his children. When he moved to Iowa, he took up biking. Leland and his son-in-law Mark rode RAGBRAI (Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa), Cycle Oregon, around Crater Lake, and from Astoria to Brookings, Oregon. He was also active in the Masonic organization, serving locally and statewide in Iowa. While with the Shriners he rode his motorcycle in many parades to raise money for the Shrine Hospitals. He also spent many years as a Trustee on the Grand Charity Board of Grand Lodge of Iowa. He was active in the Republican party of Iowa and their local Methodist Church.

Leland is survived by Denise Lane Downing (Mark) and Francesca Lane Downing (Ronald) and two grandsons, Cameron Downing and Joshua Rasmus.

A joint Celebration of Life reception for Lee and his beloved wife, Gloriann, will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at the Heathman Lodge, 7801 NE Greenwood Dr., Vancouver, WA.
