Kyle A. Marquard, 62, of Greene, died at home Thursday, Aug. 24, surrounded by family.

He was born on July 1, 1955, in Decorah, son of Donald and Mary Stoen Marquard. He married Diane Dixon in 1977.

Kyle graduated from Hampton Community High School in 1973 and from Luther College in 1977, where he was a member of the football team. In 1989, he began his 33-year career with the Greene Community School District, first as a physical education teacher and coach and later as the guidance counselor. He received his master’s degree from Iowa State University and served as president of the Iowa School Counselors Association. He retired from teaching in 2010.

Survived by: three daughters, Amanda (Scott) Eichmeier of Bondurant, Paige (Paul) Marquard of Hong Kong and Molly (Carlos) Marquard of Colombia; three grandsons, Preston, Boston and Easton Eichmeier; his mother, of Hampton; his friend and former spouse, Diane Storey of Greene; three brothers, Jeff (Dawn) of Hampton, Randy (Kay) of Hudson and Gary (Mari) of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; six nieces, Erica, Angela, Mikyla, Rachel, Hillary and Alexi; and other relatives and close friends.

Preceded in death by: his father.

Memorial services: 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene, followed by fellowship and refreshments at Round Grove Golf & Country Club, Greene. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today, Aug. 27, at the church. Retz Funeral Home, Greene, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: may be directed to his family at P.O. Box 219, Greene 50636, to be distributed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House in accordance with Kyle’s wishes.

Kyle remained a loyal Norse fan for life. He served as head boys track coach, assistant football coach, junior high basketball coach, junior high football coach and acted as an intercollegiate and interscholastic starter in track and field for nearly 40 years. In 2017, North Butler Schools honored him by naming the boys’ annual home track meet the “Kyle Marquard Bearcat Invitational.”
