Leona M. Paulsen, 89, of Hampton died Monday, April 6, 2009, at Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 9, at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Hampton, with the Rev. David Bernhardt officiating. Burial was in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Hampton.

Leona was born November 17, 1919, in Iowa Falls, to Hans M. and Minnie (Roske) Hansen.

Leona graduated from Iowa Falls High School.

She married Axel L. Paulsen on January 29, 1940, in Lee Township. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1980.

Leona was a homemaker and a devoted mother. She also worked in the meat department at We-3 Market, a restaurant in Coulter and Farmers Hybrid.

She was a member of the Women of the Moose in Ames and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she was active in the ACLW. Leona and Axel spent time cleaning the church and mowing the church yard and cemetery. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, baking and selling her fresh produce at the farmer's market.

Living family members include her son, Dick (Sharon) Paulsen of Hampton; daughter, Joanne (Jim) Van Dyke of Ames; grandsons; Rich Paulsen of Wichita, Kan.; Ron (Kathy) Paulsen of Woodinville, Wash.; Rob (Katina) Van Dyke of Ames; granddaughters; Anissa J. (Daromir) Paulsen Rudnyckyj of Victoria, B.C., Canada; and Jessica (Dan) Miller, Hampton; Great-Grandchildren; Zach and Emma Paulsen, Hannah Van Dyke, Maksym Axel Rudnyckyj, Tyler Miller and Brittany Lockwood; a sister, Cleva Sailer, of Hampton and a brother, Lawrence (Shirley) Hansen, of Iowa Falls.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a brother, Martin Hansen.
