Armund N. Miller, 83, of Newton, died on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Calvin Community in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at the St. Luke's United Methodist Church, in Newell.

Burial will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 26, at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in rural Hampton, Iowa

Armond served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.

Armond was a graduate of Hampton High School in 1949. He went to Grandview College in Des Moines for two years. He received his BA and MA from the Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Armond had taught in the elementary schools in Kimballton, Davenport and Sheffield. He was a Principal at the Emerson Hough Elementary School and then at the Lincoln Elementary School in Newton; and also in Kellogg.

Armond was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Newton. He enjoyed camping, fishing, music, traveling, talking with people and football, from high school to pro.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to St. Luke United Methodist Church or Calvin Community or to the Parkinson’s Foundation may be left at the church on the morning of the service or at the funeral home. The memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home.

Those left to honor Armond’s memory are his daughters, Shelly Chandler (John Whaley) of Johnston, Marcia (Jerry) Weiler of Remsen and Becky (Craig) Stuvick of Nolensville, Tennessee; six grandchildren, Tom Chandler, Anna Chandler, Nicholas Weiler, Christopher Weiler, Gregory Weiler and Kathy Stuvick; sister-in-law, Janice Miller of Hampton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ezra and Agna (Nielsen) Miller; wife, Beverly in 2010; and his brother, Leo Miller.
