Gayhart "Gay" LeRoy Thielen

Gayhart "Gay" LeRoy Thielen, 77, of Latimer, Iowa, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2015, at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.

He was born December 17, 1937, in Rural Coulter, Iowa, to Richard and Gladys (Rodemeyer) Thielen. Gay attended Coulter School in Coulter, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Sharon Grandt on September 23, 1961, at the St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Hampton, Iowa.

Gay worked as a farmer where he enjoyed caring for all of his animals. Gay and Sharon owned and operated G&S Grocery store in Latimer. He also drove for Solar Transport and drove school bus for CAL Community School, Latimer, IA. He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and was on the Latimer Development Board in Latimer, Iowa.

Gay enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's activities, traveling, woodworking, shooting clay pigeons, attending auctions and being around Farmall tractors.

Gay never met a stranger and always had a smile for everyone. He is survived by his wife Sharon Thielen of Latimer, daughter Annette (Bruce) Harris of Geneva, son Kurt (Roxann) Thielen of Latimer, daughter Shereen (Dave) Solseth of Altoona, foreign exchange daughter Lene (Kennet Palm) Steendahl of Denmark, grandchildren Laura (Jeremy) Monaghan, Amanda (Ben) Wobschall, Melissa Harris, Tricia Thielen (Neil Marshall), Stephanie Thielen, Lauren Solseth, Dustin Solseth, Eva Solseth, and Denmark granddaughter Naia Steendahl, great grandchildren Charlotte and Grandt Wobschall and Calan Monaghan, mother-in-law Mardella Grandt of Hampton, brother LaVerne (Carol Dee) Thielen of Cedar Falls, sister Betty (Harris) Gausman of Latimer, sister Shirley (Bob) Swieter of Clarion, sister Irene (Dick) Shear of Arkansas, sister Sandy (Ray) Kracht of Dows, sister- in- laws, Bertha Thielen of Latimer and Cora Lee Thielen of Hampton and many nieces and nephews.

Gay was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bill, Dick and Duane, sister Marge, and father-in-law Casper Grandt.
