OBITUARY
WALKER
Elizabeth Nelson was born near Bangor, Me., June 7, 1826, and died in Gilman, Iowa June 1, 1901, thus making her 74 years, 11 months, and 24 days of age. She moved with her parents to western New York in 1931; was married to George Walker, at Castile, NY, August 16, 1840; moved to Delevan, Wis., in 1843 and in 1877 moved to Hampton, Iowa, residing there ten years. (It was here she raised her daughter Mary’s two children, Cora Etta and Byron Harper Walker. Byron married Mattie Ida Bailey daughter of Alonzo Moody Bailey. Widowed, Mattie moved back to Hampton from Gillette, Arkansas with her 4 children.)There were three children born to them – two daughters and one son – Mary E. Chappill living in South Dakota, E. J. Walker, of Nevada, Iowa, and Mrs. Fannie M. Wert, who died in Gilman in 1894.
She resided at the home of her brother, Joseph Nelson, at the time of her dath and he, with her son, surviving daughter and nieces, Mrs. H.I. Smith and Mrs. E.J. Williams mourn the loss of a much loved relative.
Mrs. Walker had been a resident of Gilman about fifteen years and until near time of her death lived in her own home, but on account of the feebleness of old age and declining health she removed to the home of the H.I. Smith family to be with her relatives who gave her every care in her latter days. She was a good woman and was deservedly held in the highest regard of all among whom she had lived so many years.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W.F. Bacon, and interment in Prairie View cemetery.
Those from abroad who attended the funeral were E.J. Walker, wife and son and Geo. Walker, of Nevada; E.J. Williams and wife of Tipton. (Missing, Mary, whose children Elizabeth raised.)
