M.J. Perington, Civil War Veteran, 103, Dies

Lived on Same Farm Since 1870 Near Popejoy

Iowa Falls, Nov. 2 - M.J. Perington, probably the oldest Civil war veteran in North Iowa, died at his home northwest of here last night at the age of 103 years.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Mr. Perington came to Iowa in 1870 and lived on the same farm at Oakland Valley, near Popejoy, since.

Mr. Perington was born in Portage county, Ohio, April 7, 1828. The family moved to Wisconsin and at the outbreak of the Civil war he joined the federal forces. After the war he came to Iowa and located on a farm near the present site of Popejoy.

Mrs. Perington died in 1923. Six surviving children are Mrs. E. Ruth McClintock with whom he lived on the old homestead; Mrs. Marion Stewart in California; Mrs. Flo McMurray in Minnesota; Mrs. Ella Sands of Belmond; Mrs. Ollie Cleveland of Lohrville and Will Perrington of Popejoy.
