Popejoy, Jan 3 - Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon, at the Evangelical church in Alden, with Rev. R.J. Eilers in charge, for Fred Bessman, age eighty-nine, who passed away on Wednesday afternoon at the Ellsworth Municipal hospital, in Iowa Falls, where he had been a patient for two weeks. Death was caused by complications of old age. Burial was in the Alden cemetery.
Mr. Bessman was born in Germany and was married to Lena Lettow in 1882, and in 1884 they came to America with their small son, Otto Bessman.
He is survived by his widow, five sons, Otto Bessman, of Alden; Will Bessman, of Dows; Frank Bessman, of Buckeye; George Bessman, of Wellsburg; Ernest Bessman, of Dows; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Plummer, of Waterloo; Mrs. Mamie Vierkant, of Buckeye; and Mrs. Edith Brande, of Hollandale, Minnesota; also forty-three grandchildren and forty-eight great grandchildren.
A daughter, Mrs. Emma Boyington, preceded him in death.
