Hampton, March 4 - Funeral services for F.S. Whitney are to be held Monday afternoon at the Congregational church, conducted by the Rev. H.L. Michael. Mr. Whitney, who would have been 89 years old Saturday, died Thursday afternoon after a two weeks' illness during which he suffered a stroke of paralysis.
He was a Civil war veteran and a member of McKenzie post, G.A.R.
Mr. Whitney was a resident of Ackley for many years but about 15 years ago moved to Hampton to be near his son, J.E. Whitney. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mary Grear of California and one son, J.E. Whitney of Hampton, and his widow, Mrs. F.S. Whitney.

F.S. Whitney, 88, Civil War Veteran, Buried at Hampton
Hampton, March 5 - Another Civil war veteran was buried at Ackley, Monday afternoon. F.S. Whitney, who, had he lived until March 2, would have been 89 years old, died here Thursday evening at his home.
He was born in Canada in 1840 while his parents, William F. and Mary Scott Whitney, were visiting that country. His early boyhood was spent in New York and Michigan. In 1861 he moved to Bureau county, Illinois, and at the outbreak of the Civil War he enlisted in Company H, Twelfth Illinois volunteers.
He moved to Franklin county in 1866 settling in Osceola township. Later he moved to Faulkner in the same county and was in business there for 30 years. The last nine years of his life had been spent in Hampton.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia, two sisters, Miss Georgania Hunter of Mason, Mich., and Miss Adel Wisner of Long Island, New York. Two children, James Whitney of Hampton, and Mrs. M.A. Greer of Oakland, Cal., besides four grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Whitney's death is the second in the local G.A.R. ranks, this year, being preceded by I.W. Meyers in January.
