Hampton Boy Dies in Camp.
Chickamauga Park, Ga., July 12 -- Sergeant John W. French, member of Company D, of Hampton, Ia., died at the second division hospital at 10 o'clock Saturday night from typhoid fever. He first complained of not feeling well on July 4; was taken to the hospital on the 6th and began growing worse. French was 22 years old and was second duty sergeant of the company of which he had been a member five years. He was popular and well liked by his comrades and his death casts a gloom over the entire regiment, his demise being the first to occur in the regiment since it entered the service. The remains were shipped to Hampton leaving here at 2 o'clock today in charge of Corporal Claude Roemer.
