“MRS. JOSIE GREGG”
"Josephine Wolfenberger, the eldest of three daughters of Phillip and Luella Wolfengerger, was born Feb. 19, 1878 in Hampton, Iowa. When she was four years old one sister and her mother died and the family was separated, little Josephine was taken in the home of her grandmother, Mrs. C. E. Tunks, who cared for her until she was grown. She was graduated from the Hampton, Iowa, high school, then came to Nebraska and taught in the rural schools of Merrick County for several years.
On June 2, 1903, she was united in marriage to Jesse A. Gregg in Central City, Nebraska. They lived on a farm near Pierce Chapel for a few years and also lived in Vermont for one year. They moved to Clarks some thirty years ago, living here continuously since then. Never robust in health she became an invalid many years ago and was tenderly cared for by her husband until he was stricken by illness about a year ago and passed away last August after a lingering illness. Since then Mrs. Gregg has lived alone, constantly failing in health until the last few weeks when she has been bedfast.A lover of books, music, children, flowers, and her home, she found happiness in life in spite of many affections and much suffering. She was a member of the Clarks Methodist Church. Mrs. Gregg palled away at her home Saturday afternoon, May 19, 1951, at the age of 73.Funeral services were held at 2:00 o’clock Monday afternoon at the house with Rev. Lloyd W. Mullis officiating.Singers were Mrs. W. K. Cox and Mrs. Arthur Schlondorf, accompanied by Mrs. C. E. Souser. Pallbearers were Frank Betts, Toy Betts, Robert Betts, Vinson Bittinger, Harold Snider, and Elwyn Graig. Flower bearers were Mrs. Roy Betts and Mrs. Robert Betts. Burial was in the Clarks cemetery with W. L. Fosbury, mortician in charge of arrangements."
