HENRY GRAY OBEYS DEATH SUMMONS

Former Hampton Business Man Succumbs Saturday Evening at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Body Will Be Buried in Hampton Cemetery Today.

Henry Gray, aged 75 years, a former resident of Hampton, who has made his home in Des Moines for a long time, died Saturday evening at the Lutheran hospital in that city after a brief illness. Following funeral services, held in Des Moines this morning at 10 o'clock, the body accompanied by relatives and friends, will be brought here for burial. The funeral party will come by auto and is expected to arrive at the Hampton cemetery between 3 and 4 o'clock p.m.

In 1884 Mr. Gray came to Hampton from Vermont and engaged in the furniture trade in the building now occupied by Fox Brothers. He disposed of the business about 30 years ago and moved to Des Moines which has since been his home. He was married in the spring of 1880 to Alice Smith, of Cedar Rapids, who died here on October 30, 1897. Four children were born to this union who survive him. They are Mrs. Clara Davis, of Hollywood, Calif.; Mrs. Ruth Teyrand [stet – Peyraud] of Chicago; Harry Gray, of San Francisco, Calif., and Roy Gray, of Washington, D.C. Mr. Gray is also survived by his second wife, a native of Vermont, whom he married in 1898.

A handwritten note on the article states "May 21, 1927". This is a Saturday and based on the information in the article I assume it is the date of death.
