Thomas H. Bayliss Passes Away at Home of Daughter in Geneva. Burial Made at Old Chapin Cemetery.
"Death called another pioneer citizen of Franklin county when Thomas H. Bayliss, at the advanced age of 86 years, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. H. Switzer, in Geneva, Monday, July 20th.
"Funeral services were held at the Chapin M. E. church last Wednesday. In the absence of the regular pastor, Rev. L. F. Davis of the Christian church at Hampton officiated. Burial was made in Old Chapin Cemetery.
"Thomas H. Baylis was born in England but early in life removed to Canada and in 1873 to Iowa. He engaged in farming near Chapin at what was known as Old Chapin Grove until his retirement a number of years ago.
"He was the father of eleven children, ten of whom survive. The living children are Harry and Walter, of Chapin; Thomas, of Belmond; William, of Wolsey, S.D.; Joseph, of Riverton, Minn.; Luke, of Frederic, Wis.; Mrs. J. H. Switzer, of Geneva; Mrs. Wm. Sahr, of Frederic, Wis.; Mrs. William Crawford, of Manly; and Mrs. Edward Gridley, of Minneapolis. He is also survived by forty-eight grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren.
"Mr. Bayliss was a man of honesty and integrity and had a philosophy of this life and a faith in the life to come that were worthy examples to the younger generation."
