I have a newspaper article about a relative who drowned on the Shell Rock River but have no idea of the year. The article says - Rockford, Iowa June 15. - A party of four, Miss Jessie Rollin, Miss Anna Kockler, C. H. Anderson, and A. D. Cooley, were out boat riding on the Shell Rock river. In some manner their boat capsized and all were thrown into the river. Their cries for help were heard, but before they could be reached all were drowned. The river was dragged and the bodies secured.
My question is, how would I find the year this happened? I know Jessie Rollin was born in 1867 and was named administrator of her father's Will in 1887. It appears these were young people maybe on a date. What town in Floyd Co.would there be a newspaper, or would this article come from a larger town in the area. I'm stumped and would appreciate any ideas. Thanks!!!
