Charles Sylvester Smith, son of Charles and Mary Ann Jordan Smith was born in Dane County, Wisc., November 6, 1864 and died at his home 602 D Street, Charles City, August 21, 1936, aged 71 years 9 months and 15 days.

He came with his parents to Riverton Township Floyd County, Iowa when a small boy where he resided until twenty-one years ago when he purchased the present home of the family in Charles City.

He was united in marriage with Miss Dora Beck of Riverton Township September 23, 1886, and to this union two children were born, Glenn who died in France in 1919 and Blanche, now Mrs. Clay Parker who with the wife and mother survives him. His parents, one brother and two sisters preceeded him in death.

He is survived by one brother, Fred Smith, of St. Louis, Mo., and one granddaughter, Miss Eleanor Parker of Charles City.

In all his business transactions he was ever a man of strict honesty and unfailing integrity and was a splendid and helpful neighbor and a kind and loving husband and father, a true and unfailing friend.

Funeral services were held at the Grossman Funeral Home, Charles City, Monday afternoon, August 24 at 2:30 o'clock conducted by the Rev. G. A. Hess, pastor of the First Christian Church.
Internment was at Riverside Cemetery.
