NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Iva Crystal Strassman, 100, died Saturday (August 5, 2000) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to service time Thursday at the chapel.

Iva Crystal Strassman was born on Oct. 9, 1899, in Rudd, the daughter of Ellsworth and Katie (Wood) Dean. She received her education in the Rudd school system. She was united in marriage to Charles Strassman on May 28, 1914, in Mason City. She met Charles at Camp Grant in Rockford, Ill., while she was driving a laundry truck.

After their marriage she helped her dad on the family farm in Nora Springs. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren. She was a member of the local garden clubs in Nora Springs.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Iva "Irene" McNamara and her husband, George, of Nora Springs; two granddaughters, Iva Van Hooser and her husband, Mike, of Osage, and Doris Lugg and her husband, Dan, of Rockford; three great-grandchildren, Tracy Hamand, Douglas Van Hooser and his wife, Sheila, and Brian Lugg; five great-great-grandchildren, David C. Hamand, Cory Hamand, Colton Hamand, Melinda Van Hooser and Jacob Staudt; and other relatives and friends.

Iva was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Glen Dean; and one sister, Myrtle Newton.
