GREENE - The funeral for Maude E. Kingery, 85, of 411 N. Bluff in Greene, will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Church of the Brethren in Greene, with Pastor Ashok Patet officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral Chapel, with a public scripture service at 7:30 p.m. There will be further visitation one hour before services on Saturday at the church.

Maude Evelyn Keith was born April 22, 1916, in rural Scott Township, Floyd County, a daughter of Claude and Josie (Garber) Keith, and died Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2001) at the Riverside Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

She received her education at the Scott Township No. 9 country school near Marble Rock. On Sept. 5, 1936, she was united in marriage to Vern Kingery in Minneapolis, Minn. They began farming west of Marble Rock, where they remained until 1948, when they began farming west of Greene. In 1959 they farmed west of Marble Rock until their retirement in 1977, when they moved into Greene. Maude will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother who helped with the day-to-day chores on the farm. She provided for her family through gardening, canning, sewing and cooking.

She will be remembered for her faithful dedication to her church as a Deaconess of the church, singing duets with her husband for church services, teaching Sunday school and being a member of the Women's Fellowship. Her interests included crocheting, embroidery work and reading books.

Those thankful for having shared her life include her children, Evelyn Fish, of Council Bluffs, Betty Kingery and Janice Ackart, both of Greene, and Elvin and his wife, Dorothy, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; son-in-law, Bill Bell, of Floyd; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Alice Kingery, of Greene, and Viola Keith of Marble Rock.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern, on March 7, 1984; daughter, Lois Bell in 1990; grandson, Stephen Fish, in 1991; granddaughter, Susan Fish, in 1992; two sons-in-law, Leo Fish, in 1970 and Marvin Nelson, in 1986; her parents; and three brothers, Alton, Lloyd and Roy Keith.
