Rites Held for Thomas J. Lines -
Thomas John Lines, son of Mattie and William Lines, was born near Marble Rock on July 9, 1889, and passed away on January 19, 1955 at his home in Marble Rock. He attended public schools in Floyd county and was united in marriage to Lyla E. Losee on March 10, 1915. To this union were born 8 children, one of which (Ivan) died at eight years of age.
Mr. Lines spent the first 11 years of his married life farming, following which for 22 years he worked for Floyd County as road maintainer operator. His parents and three brothers William, Roy and Clyde and one sister, Mrs. William Pierce have preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Lyla, seven children, Galen Lines, Arthur Lines, Mrs. Merle Nash of Marble Rock, Mrs. Gilbert Osier and Mrs. Gaylord Scandrett of Charles City, Wayne Lines of Mason City, Pvt. Dean Lines, stationed with the U.S. Marines at 29 Palms, California. Also three brothers Fred of Bemidji, Minnesota, Harry and Edward Lines of Rockford, Iowa 22 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for "Tom" Lines were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 22nd at the Methodist church. Vern Prugh officiated. Mrs. Leo Stroud sang "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," accompanied by Mrs. Andrew Carney. Mrs. Cecil Swant and Mrs. Emmett Malady cared for the flowers.
Burial was in Hillside Cemetery. Those attending the funeral from away were; Claude Lines, Grundy Center, Mr. And Mrs. Berl Patton of Mason City, Mr. And Mrs. Lyndon Losee and family and Mrs. Gertude Losee and Burton of Rockford. Twyla Losee of Iowa City, Mr. And Mrs. A. L. Garettson, Mr. And Mrs. Vern Lines, Mr. And Mrs. Guy Lines, Mrs. Vera Schaeffer, all of Charles City, Mrs. Ida Blumensteil, Mr. And Mrs. Wesley Geiser of Rockford, Mr. And Mrs. Kreider of Rockwell.
