[Mrs. Clarence Hain – Rockford Register - Wednesday, July 10, 1935]

Clara Spofford was born on a farm in Cerro Gordo county, Iowa on June 3, 1887 and died in Mercy Hospital, Mason City, Sunday afternoon July 7, 1935, at the age of 48 years 1 month and 4 days. She grew to womanhood at the place of her birth.

On Dec 12, 1911 she was married to Clarence Hain. Six children came to bless their union, all of whom survive to mourn the loss of the mother. They are Mrs. Frank Berk, Claud, Bessie, Bernice, Wilbur and Floyd Hain all of Rockford. Several years ago the family returned to the home where the mother was born and had lived there since.

She had been sick for several months prior to her death but through her suffering she was ever resolute and cheerful, bearing her illness with fortitude and courage. She was always a good and kind woman, never finding fault, never speaking a cross word. She was ever a good mother and a good wife. She was always trying to help someone, a good neighbor to all who needed her. She was affiliated with the Circle C of the Methodist Aid Society. Bestides the husband and children, two sisters sorrow in her departure, Mrs. Everett Davis and Mrs. A. B. Taylor. Her many friends mourn with the family in the loss they sustain together.

For a number of years before her marriage, Mrs. Hain was a compositor in the Register office where she was most highly esteemed for her faithfulness and loyalty as well as for her uniform spirit of cheerfulness. The memory of her presence and labors in the Register office has ever been a pleasant one.

Thos who attended the funeral from out-of-town were: Mrs. John Suggit, an aunt from Warren, Illinois; Mrs. William Van Note of Iowa Falls; and Mr. and Mrs. Arlyn Taylor of Mason City.
