Larry Dee Smith was born in Charles City on February 4, 1936 to Howard & Alice (Sweasy) Smith. He was united in marriage to Marian Edna Voelker on June 26, 1955. Larry and Marian had three daughters: Carol, Cheryl and Cathy and one infant son, Craig (deceased). Larry worked at Oliver/White Farm for 37 years, and also did bookkeeping at Dale's Auto Wrecking where he would keep an eye out for cars he could fix. After White Farm closed, Larry worked at Blong's Cabinet Shop, Hobson Brothers, and Custom Wood Products before he finally retired.

Larry enjoyed collecting and restoring vintage cars and especially loved his ‘50 Ford, ‘56 T-Bird and ’63½ Galaxie which his daughters nicknamed his "other three girls"! He was a good ball player and bowler, and his family has many fond memories of watching his games. Larry and Marian were avid polka dancers and traveled somewhere almost every weekend to dance at ballrooms around the Midwest.

Larry planted many trees on their acreage north of town that attracted various wildlife especially birds. His grandkids’ favorite memories include feeding the birds and filling the bird baths followed by refreshing root beer floats on the deck.

Larry is survived by his wife, Marian; daughters Carol (Stu) McDonald, Cheryl (Joe) Krajci and Cathy (John) Pollock; six grandchildren Meg (Matt), Chad (Lisa), Beth (Scott), Mandy, John(fiancée Tara) and Victoria; five great-grandchildren Ava, Benson, Addi, Ben and Cameron; sister Alice Hull and brother Terry (G-Ann) Smith; along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Craig Smith and siblings: Carma Palmer, Bud Smith, Mavis Miller, Bill Smith, Bobby Smith and Roger Smith.
