Helen Youngerman, 96, of Charles City, passed away Friday, July 19, 2019 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City, Iowa.

A funeral service for Helen Youngerman will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Norman Bauer officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation will be at Hauser Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2019 and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.

Helen (Leymaster) Youngerman was born October 1, 1922 in Aurora, Nebraska. Her parents were Walter and Rosa (Groelz) Leymaster. In 1938, the family moved to rural Charles City because of the dust bowls. Helen was united in marriage to Wilhelm Youngerman in 1940 and this couple was blessed with five children: Judith, Susan, William, Sara and David.

Helen was the Food Service Supervisor at Floyd County Medical Center from 1962 to 1986. She took great pride in the food she was able to provide for others including her own family. Helen was a great cook, avid baker and she made sure her family always ate well. She also enjoyed crocheting rugs for family and friends.

Helen was a 4-H leader, librarian at Messiah Lutheran Church, a pink lady at Floyd County Medical Center and a member of West St. Charles Homemaker Club. She was able to live on the family farm (which is a century farm and will be a heritage farm this year) until 1986 when she moved into town. Helen continued to live in her own home on Maple Avenue through the age of 96 years when an accident caused her to move to the Nora Springs Care Center where she was well cared for.

Living family members include her children: Judith Youngerman Brooks, Susan Jane Youngerman (James) Marth and David Alan (Karen) Youngerman; daughter-in-law, Chris Youngerman; grandchildren: Alvin (Tina) Marth, Kara (Ryan) Harder, Alys (Karl) Miller, Billy (Laura) Marth, Steven (Margo) Brooks, Kathy Marth (Brad Gorman), Anne (Derek) Friederich and Jennifer (Drew) Miller; great-grandchildren: Cory, Tyler and Grace Marth, Wilhelm and Theodore Harder, Malia, Liam and Marissa Marth, Joshua and Audrey Miller, Bowie Brooks and Emersyn and Hadleigh Miller; sister, Ruth Stratton; along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilhelm; daughter, Sara Jean Youngerman; son, William John Youngerman; and two sisters: Jean Nash and Doris Johnson.
