Fertig is Dead.
George Fertig died at New Hampton on the 31st ult. Fertig was a bootlegger —a defier of the Iowa liquor law living at Charles City. For many years he was in every term of court in some form or other. At last Sheriff Fairbanks ran away with Fertig's wife. This was an event that shook the society circles of Charles City from center to circumference. The pair fled to the Klondike where they have since lived as man and wife. In speaking of Fertig's death a dispatch from Charles City says he has lived at New Hampton since the last term of the Floyd county court, when he was indicted once again for selling liquor illegally.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Charles City and that he was born September 14, 1842 and died March 29. 1904.
