NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Margaret Schaper, 81, of Nora Springs, died Tuesday (March 26, 2019) at Mercy One Medical Center in Mason City.
A funeral service will be held 11:00am on Saturday (March 30, 2019) at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 101 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, with Reverend David Werges officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Margaret Schaper was born December 10, 1937, in Maynard, Iowa, to Frank and Lillian Whitney.
Margaret grew up in Maynard, Iowa where she graduated from high school in 1956 and then went to work as telephone operator connecting calls by inserting a pair of phone plugs into the appropriate jacks. At the end of her life she was texting her family daily on her cell phone.
Margaret met Karl Schaper shortly after he immigrated from Germany in 1957. Margaret and Karl married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa in 1958 marking the beginning of over 60 years together. In 1964 they moved to Nora Springs to a home in the woods along the Shell Rock River where they have lived for over 55 years and where they raised their three children.
From 1974 to 1996 Karl and Margaret had their own business, Mason City Truck Repair, where they worked together every day, Karl repairing trucks and Margaret doing the office work.
Margaret was active in her church, St. Luke Lutheran, for many years using her musical talent playing piano and as an organist and singer. She was the heart and soul of her family and will be greatly missed by all who love her.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Karl Schaper of Nora Springs; children Elizabeth Thompson and husband Grant of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Angie Hinderaker and her husband Tom of Story City, Iowa; William Schaper and his wife, Melyssa of Mason City; grandchildren Whitney Thompson and her significant other, Will Kelly of Madison, Wisconsin; Claire Thompson and fiance Barkley Wilson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, MacKenzie and Kameryn Nolte of Mason City and Mae Hinderaker of Story City. Margaret is also survived by her twin sister, Mary Wright of Rochester, Minnesota; nieces and nephews; and Karl's surviving family in Germany who knew and loved Margaret.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and Karl's parents, brother Charles Whitney and his wife, brother in law Tom Wright; niece Candace Wright and brothers-in-law Fritz and Gerhard Schaper and their wives.
