CHARLES CITY -- Berniece Walker, 89, of Charles City, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the Heritage Care Center in Mason City.

A funeral service for Berniece Walker will at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at First Congregational Church with Pastor Forrest Cornelius officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service at the church on Tuesday.

Berniece Walker

June 6, 1929 - February 14, 2019

Berniece Walker, 89, of Charles City, went to live for eternity with her first love, Jesus, on February 14, 2019, and will be missed by all who knew her. She transitioned peacefully from Heritage Care Center, Mason City, Iowa at 1:27am to her new home, heaven.

A funeral service for Berniece Walker will be at on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at First Congregational Church, 502 North Jackson Street, Charles City, Iowa with Pastor Forrest Cornelius officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City following the service.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service at the church on Tuesday.

Berniece June (Starry) Walker, daughter of Myron and Edith (Vansyoc) Starry, was born in McIntire, Iowa on June 6, 1929. She attended country school and graduated from Riceville High School in 1946. Berniece worked at Oliver Corp and Charles City Motor Co. She was married to Ralph Milhan for 24 years. In 1973 she married Clyde Walker and spent 43 years of marriage with him. They drove motorhomes for Winnebago and managed East Gate Apartments together.

Berniece was an active member of First Congregational Church where she enjoyed her Bible Study fellowship and the ministry of sending cards to family and friends. Her family cherishes her love for music, yodeling, laughter, fun and her thoughtfulness. She loved music, dancing, traveling, crocheting, sewing and flowers of all kinds. She brought joy to all through her love and contagious smile.

Berniece is survived by her siblings: Maxine DeVries, Bob (Marlys) Starry, Dennis (Teresa) Starry, Mary (Roger) Hultman and Don Starry; daughter, Marge (Larry) Leibold and son, Roger (Deb) Milhan. Step-children: Pamela (Doug) Auchstetter, Russell (Rose) Walker, Katherine Cook, Gail (Darwin) DeVries, Pat (Denise) Walker, Denise Leuchentenmacher, Mark (Sabrina) Walker and Josephine (Ethan) Bredlow; 26 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Ralph; husband, Clyde; sister-in-law, Bev Starry; brother-in-law, Floyd DeVries; and grandson, Tanner Walker.
