Lisa Thorson, 56, of Charles City, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City, surrounded by her loving family.
A gathering of family and friends for Lisa Thorson will be from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Hauser Funeral Home.
Lisa Ann Gerk, the daughter of Robert and Florence (Kemmerick) Gerk, was born on August 9, 1962, in Charles City. She attended schools in Charles City and graduated in 1980. During high school, Lisa was very active in basketball and softball (competing at state in softball many times). She also had the honor of being the 1979 Homecoming Queen. Lisa was united in marriage to Karry Thorson on August 31, 1985 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City.
After high school, Lisa worked at Solvay Animal Health. She quit Solvay Animal Health to take care of her children and many others while operating her in home daycare. She later returned to Solvay Animal Health when her children were older. Lisa enjoyed baking, sewing quilts, and hunting with her son Adam, she loved spending time with Brodie and skyping with Drew, and especially loved her grandchildren. She loved it attending fairs, and seeing the cows and chickens, often wishing she had some. Lisa had many friends throughout her life and cherished each friendship she had and will be missed by all who knew her.
Living family members include her husband, Karry; sons: Drew (Lauren Hill) Thorson, Adam (Jess) Thorson, and Brodie Thorson; grandchildren: Mason and Hudson; siblings: Linda Refer, Dave Gerk, and Connie Conrad; mother, Florence Gerk; step mother-in-law, Maida Wiegmann; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Gerk; mother and father-in-law, Don and Ruby Thorson; and sisters: Carol Krokowski and Janice Menning.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Floyd County Cancer Fund.
Next spring friends and family will be invited to spread her ashes out at the cabin.
