Margaret Riden, 100, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A funeral service for Margaret Riden will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Beranek officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be at Hauser Funeral Home from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2018 and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Monday.

Margaret Riden, 100, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A funeral service for Margaret Riden will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Beranek officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be at Hauser Funeral Home from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2018 and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Monday.

Margaret Linda (Wedeking) Riden was born February 21, 1918 in Butler County, Iowa the daughter of Gottlieb and Margaret (Lundt) Wedeking; the youngest of eleven children. She was baptized and confirmed at the First United Church of Christ, Pleasant Valley near Clarksville. She received her education at Riden School, Butler Township, District #3.

On November 20, 1941, she was married to Floyd Riden in Clarksville, Iowa. They farmed south of Charles City for 28 years and then moved to their home in Charles City where Margaret still resided.

Margaret was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was very active in the church circles, United Methodist Women, LCA co-chair, Peace Circle, Midi’s and as a Sunday school teacher. She was always found helping with numerous functions within the church. Margaret was also a member of the Heritage Club, Birthday Club, Senior Citizens, Cedarside Club, a 4-H Leader and a regular at Tuesday morning coffee.

Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild held a very special place in her heart. She made many meals, numerous quilts and afghans for all of them and will fondly be remembered for her sugar cookies that she made for everyone’s birthday and special holidays.

Living family members include her children: daughter, Mona Staudt and son, Gary Riden both of Charles City; six grandchildren: Douglas Staudt (Christopher Lee) of Urbandale, Steven (Nikki) Staudt of Forest City, Charles (Angie) Staudt of Charles City, Renee (Brody) Boss of Charles City, Somer (Ben) Diercks of Flint, Michigan and Andrea (Alex) Heitz of Charles City; 18 great-grandchildren: Alex, Will and Isabelle Staudt; Jake (Molly Lewison) Abbey and Gabe Staudt; Drew, Lydia and Lauren Staudt; Margaret, Madeline and Thomas Boss; Katie Clay (Alex Stone), Derrick Robbins, Damien Robbins and Olivia Diercks; Carter Zorzi and LuLu Heitz; one great-great grandson, Jerimiah Stone; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd in 2002; six brothers: Emil, Arnold, Helmuth, Walter, Otto and Edwin; four sisters: Selma, Anna, Martha and Hilda; son-in-law, Ronald Staudt; and daughter-in-law, Sheila Riden.
