Dennis Lane, 63, of Sheffield, Iowa, passed away, Monday, June 11, 2018, at his home, in the care of his family.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, at Retz Funeral Home, Sheffield. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at Retz Funeral Home.

Dennis John Lane (a.k.a. Yardo) was born November 27, 1954, in Charles City, a son of Edgar and Arlene (Willis) Lane. He grew up in Clarksville and attended Clarksville schools. After high school Denny worked various jobs before joining the staff at Sukup Manufacturing as an Industrial Painter. He also worked as a spot welder, retiring after 35 years of service.

On August 4, 1979, Denny was united in marriage with Julie Allen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. After converting to Catholicism they were remarried in the Catholic Church the same day his first son Matthew was baptized.

As a family they enjoyed camping and fishing. He would spend hours tinkering in his garage and riding his motorcycle. He was also a die-hard Vikings fan. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Hampton.

Family members include his wife of 38 years, Julie; sons: Matthew (Liz Bogue), Sheffield and Marcus, Sheffield; grandchildren: Isaiah DeLos Santos, Hunter Lane, Connor Lane, Austin Bogue, Peyton Bogue; brothers and sisters: Doug (Shari) Lane, Dean (Barb) Lane, Juanita Shapley, Jo (Steve) Franzen, David Lane, Joyce (Dan) Doeppke; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Denny is preceded in death by his parents, sister Judy and her husband Rick, brothers-in-law Don Shapley and Ron Hansen.
