Dorothy "Dottie" Lucille Littauer, 96, of Charles City, passed away Monday, June 4, 2018 at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City surrounded by her loving family.

A private family graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

A Celebration of Life Luncheon for Dottie will be held on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wildwood Clubhouse in Charles City for family and friends.

Dorothy Lucille (Morris) Littauer was born August 19, 1921, at Nashua, Iowa, the daughter of Harvey and Kathryne (Hendrickson) Morris. She graduated from Nashua High School in 1938 and then worked in the office at the Rath Packing Plant in Waterloo.

When her father had to close his car dealership due to the war, her family moved to San Diego. Dottie was married to Nashua native (and love of her life), Edwin Littauer, in San Diego on February 8, 1942 after he enlisted in the service during World War II.

Dottie lived in San Diego while Ed served in the Marine Corps at the U.S. Base in Okinawa, Japan. She worked at an airplane manufacturing facility until the war ended and moved to Charles City where she lived the rest of her life. Dottie raised two children and did record keeping for her husband's business partnership, B & L Shell Service Station until Ed's passing on November 20, 1978.

She then became secretary for the accounting service of Burke, Saunders & Co. until her retirement. Dottie was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, VFW Auxiliary, Wan-Tan-Ye, Women of the Moose and the Wildwood Ladies Golf Association.

Dottie will be remembered as a wonderful and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She always put her children and grandchildren first, but managed to have time for her card-party, bowling and golfing friends. At the age of 75, Dottie bowled a 275 game and a 672 series and was elated to have her name on the board at the Comet Bowl. In later years, her favorite game became BINGO at the Meskwaki Casino.

Living family members who will miss her dearly are her children: Kathy (Dave) Krieger of Charles City and Gary (Mary Ann) Littauer of Windsor, Colorado; grandchildren: Chad (Erica) Krieger of Springfield, Illinois, Aubrie (Jimi) Glenn of Urbandale, Josh (Anna) Krieger of The Woodlands, Texas and Natalie Littauer of Windsor, Colorado; and great-grandchildren: Aaliyah, Stella, Trey, Maggie, Charlotte and Jemma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin; brother, Robert Morris; and sister, Helen Goldt.
