Dunkerton, Iowa – William Henry Garbes, 67, of Dunkerton, died Friday, June 29, 2018, at UPH-Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. – Monday, July 2, 2018, at the Dunkerton Gospel Hall, Dunkerton, IA, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, Dunkerton. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 1st at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, and will continue for an hour before services Monday at the Gospel Hall. Memorials may be directed to the family.

William was born August 10, 1950, in Charles City, Iowa the son of Vern Fredrick Garbes and Viola Ida (Wefel) Garbes. He married Mavis Sue Miller, June 2, 1979, at the Stout Reformed Church, Stout, IA. He graduated from Dunkerton High School in 1968, and then worked multiple places before retiring from Tyson Fresh Meats in 2012, after 18 years of service. Presently he worked part time as a maintenance employee at First National Bank in Cedar Falls, IA.

Mr. Garbes is survived by his wife, Mavis of Dunkerton; two daughters, Jamie (Patrick) Smith of Dike, IA, Chelsea (Joe) Brokaw of Waterloo, IA; one son, Nathan (Ashley) Garbes of Dunkerton, IA; six grandchildren, Seeri, Jaelyn, Linden and Myah Smith of Dike, Connor Garbes of Dunkerton and Kamrie Brokaw of Waterloo; one brother, Larry (Ann) Garbes of Elk Run Heights, IA; three sisters, Judi (Dave) Halbmaier of Washburn, Linda Sickman and Patricia (James) Hines of Waterloo, IA. Two brothers in law, Alvin (Verla) Miller of Parkersburg, IA, Rod (Kathy) Miller of Hampshire, IL; one sister in law, Lorraine Kuker of Omaha, NE. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Jim, Vern, Jr., and Roger (in infancy); two sisters, Barbara “Jane” Knebel and Rebecca Garbes (in infancy) and a nephew, Levi Knebel.

Bill enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening and being outside, playing cards and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
