NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Delbert M. Brierly, 94, of Nora Springs, died Wednesday (March 21, 2018) at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs.

NORA SPRINGS, IOWA – Delbert Brierly, 94, of Nora Springs, died Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday (April 21, 2018) at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Inurnment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Rudd where military honors will be provided by the Nora Springs American Legion H.D.S. Post 449.

The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Delbert was born on April 21, 1923 in Rudd, the son of Garrett and Adda (Tibbits) Brierly. He attended and graduated from Nora Springs High School.

On May 4, 1942 Delbert was united in marriage to Iris Brown in Kahoka, Missouri, this union would be blessed with three children, Marvin, Connie, and Gary.

Delbert joined the United States Army on February 17, 1943 and faithfully served his country during World War II until his Honorable discharge on December 24, 1945.

Delbert worked in construction for all his adult life. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, bowling, and watching football. Delbert was a member of the American Legion, Carver's Union 1313, and a past member of Soldier and Sailor's Relief of Floyd County.

Those grateful in sharing in his life are his children, Marvin (Kathie) Brierly, Mason City and Connie (Bruce) Schuver, Naples, Florida; grandchildren, Jason Brierly, Jim (Christine) Schuver, Wendy (Travis) Simpson, Nathan Brierly, and Angie (Bob) Murley; nine great grandchildren; sister, Mary Lou (Fred) Stoltenberg, Tripoli; sister in law, Betty Brierly, Nora Springs; as well as extended family members and many friends.

Delbert is preceded in death by his wife, Iris; parents, Garrett and Adda; son, Gary; siblings, Gale Brierly, Gordon (Corrine) Brierly, Kenny Brierly, Burton Brierly, and Virginia (Art) Rethamel, Howard William Brierly, and Edna May Brierly.

Memorials may be left to the Nora Springs American Legion H.D.S. Post No. 449 in Delbert's name.
