WATERLOO, IOWA - John A. Hand, 70, of Waterloo died Monday, May 15, 2017 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

He was born April 5, 1947 in Argos, Indiana, the son of Myron R. and Carola (Beam) Hand. He married Elizabeth “Liz” Ames on June 17, 1967 in Hamilton, Michigan.

He earned his BA degree from Indiana Wesleyan University and was ordained in 1976. He pastored Wesleyan churches in Indiana, Michigan and Iowa for 42 years.

Survived by: his wife of Waterloo; two sons, Christopher (Marcey) Hand of Cedar Falls and William (Kristin) Hand of Indianapolis, IN; two daughters, Karen Hand Hamaker of Walcottville, IN, and Lisa (Travis) Holste of Mason City; seven grandchildren: Derek Hand, Brandon Hand, Luke Hand, John Dennis Hand, Chase Holste, Clark Holste and Michelle Hand; a sister, Myra Roy of Washington; and three brothers, Gerald (Kathy) Hand and Eric (Tina) Hand of Zionsville, IN, and Richard Hand of Colorado Springs, CO.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Ron Hand.

Family Directed Memorial Services: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the Rudd Gym. Richardson Funeral Service in Cedar Falls is assisting the family.
