Mrs. William Otto Taken by Death

ROCKFORD - Mrs. William (Clara) Otto, 76 died last night at her home following a heart attack.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday at the Methodist Church. The Rev. George Baker, pastor, will officiate. Friends may call at the Weaver Funeral Home after tonight or at the church between 1 p. m. and 2 p. m. Thursday.

Mrs. Otto was born Oct 26, 1878, in Ulster Township, Floyd County, Iowa, the daughter of August and Wilhelmina Gelhaus. She was married to William H. Otto, June 2, 1898. The couple was engaged in farming until moving to Rockford in 1939.

Mr. Otto and one child preceded her in death.
Survivors include nine children and a granddaughter, Patricia, who made her home with her grandparents. Eighteen other grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

SOURCE: A newspaper clipping among the Birkholz family papers. It was likely published in a local newspaper in or near Rockford, Iowa. A copy of the clipping was included in a family scrapbook compiled by Carol Spicer, of Thompson, North Dakota in 2008.

Rockford Woman Dies; Funeral to be Thursday

ROCKFORD – Funeral services for Mrs. William Otto, 76, will be held Thursday at 2 p. m. at the Methodist church, The Rev. George W. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. She died at her home here Sunday.

Mrs. Otto was born in Ulster Township, Floyd County, Iowa on Oct 26, 1878, daughter of August and Wilhelmina Gelhaus, and lived her entire life in this community. On June 2, 1898, she was married to William Otto. They farmed until 1939 when they retired to Rockford.

Survivors include nine children: Levi, Rockford; Mrs. Orville Young, Rudd; Mrs. Conrad Schoeder, Plainfield; Delbert, Marvin and Robert, Charles City; Arlie, Mason City; Mrs. Bernice Klink, Rockford, and Donald, Richmond Annex, California; 18 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters.
