WILLIAM OTTO DIES AT 75

ROCKFORD – William H. Otto, 75, retired farmer and lifelong resident of the Rockford area died at 10:30 p. m. last night at the Cedar Valley hospital.

Born in Floyd County, Iowa on June 24, 1874, he was the son of Frederick and Henrietta Otto. On Jun 2, 1898, he married the former Clara Gelhause. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, Jun 2, 1948.

Mr. and Mrs. Otto farmed for six years near Roseville, and then moved northeast of Rockford where they farmed for more than 34 years. Eleven years ago they moved into Rockford.

Mr. Otto was a member of the Flood Creek Methodist church and later of the Rockford Methodist church.

Survivors include his widow, six sons and three daughters. The sons are Levi Otto and Donald Otto, both of Rockford, Delwin Otto, Marvin Otto and Robert Otto, (the article appears to be cut off before ending)

SOURCE: A newspaper clipping among the Birkholz family papers. It was likely published in a local newspaper in Charles City, Iowa. A copy of the clipping was included in a family scrapbook compiled by Carol Spicer, of Thompson, North Dakota in 2008.

Hold Rites Saturday for Rockford Man, 75

ROCKFORD – William Otto, 75 died at a hospital in Charles City Wednesday at 10:30 p. m.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church, the Rev. Roscoe B Sires officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery at Rockford.

The following children survive: Levi of Rockford, Mrs. Orville Young of Rudd, Mrs. Conrad Schroeder of Plainfield, Delwin and Marvin of Charles City, Arlie of Rudd, Robert of Charles City, Mrs. Joe Klink and Donald Otto of Rockford: also a sister, Lydia Birkholz of Grand Forks, North Dakota, 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
