Clipping #1:

Henrietta Otto, nee Braend, was born in Lake Mills, Wisconsin, Aug 17, 1852 and passed on to her reward July 31, 1937 at 2:30 p.m. at her home, 601 Gilbert Street, Charles City, Iowa, after a lingering illness of eight months. Old age and complications were such that her frail body was unable to overcome the same.

Soon after her marriage to Fred Otto on December 17, 1873, the young couple came to Floyd Country Iowa, settling upon a farm which the operated for 27 years. They also united with the Methodist church at Flood Creek and in 1902 on January 26, during the pastorate of the late John H. Klaus joined the Central Methodist church by letter. Father Otto died in 1923.

For a number of years she was also active in the W.F.M.S. and Ladies’ Aid of the church. She was interested in the various activities of the church and attended the same if at all possible. In her humble way she sought to work out her soul’s salvation. She planned to be present at church services even if she was unable to hear and understand very little for the reason that her hearing was much impaired.

Thus another of our pioneer mothers has finished her race. We are glad to note that she had no fear of death but had an earnest desire to depart and be at home with God.

She leave to mourn her demise on daughter, Mrs. Lydia Birkholz, Grand Forks, N.D.; one son, William, Rockford, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Adolph Herbrechtsmeyer and one brother, William, both of Charles City.

Interment was made in Riverside cemetery.
