MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - Marcia Ann Vorhes, 68, of Marble Rock, passed away May 4, 2017, at home in Marble Rock, Iowa, after a year long battle with cancer.
Marcia was born in Marble Rock, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Marilyn (Staudt) Krull on Aug. 10, 1948.
Marcia thoroughly loved the outdoors and being active at a young age and continued to throughout her life. She enjoyed exploring her parents' farm and helping with the horses, playing basketball, and going fishing.
Marcia went to high school at Rockford Senior High School and graduated in 1966. She earned her degree from Hamilton College and later LaJames School of Beauty. Marcia married the love of her life, Pete Vorhes, at the Marble Rock United Methodist Church on March 23, 1968.
Marcia was a secretary and owned a beauty shop before she decided to start farming with her husband, Pete. They farmed side by side for nearly 40 years forming their partnership Pet-Mar, Inc. Marcia and Pete were founders of Top of Iowa with a group of area farmers. Some of her favorite jobs on the farm included cultivating the fields in the spring and hauling grain during the fall harvest.
Marcia was creative and ambitious with many hobbies. She loved gardening, quilting, sewing, crocheting, knitting, scrapbooking, cooking and baking, and really crafting of any kind. She always had a new project in mind and was planning an activity to do with her grandkids during their next visit. She loved to share her talents, joys and passions with family and friends.
Marcia is preceded in death by her father, Edward Krull; mother Marilyn (Staudt) Sebaugh; and step-father Merlyn Sebaugh.
Marcia is survived by her husband Pete Vorhes; daughter: Tamy Alger, her children: Zackary, Logan, Colbee, Jarrod and Ayden; daughter: Pam (Matthew) Guilbeault, their children: Bennett and Laine; daughter: Tara Vorhes (Daniel Urban), their children: James and Elizabeth; son: Ray (Melissa Arends) Vorhes, their children: Drew, Jake and Audrey. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.
Marcia requested a private funeral. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
