Obituary for Kurt Ellsworth Spencer--

Kurt Ellsworth Spencer, 74, Nora Springs, died Friday, March 17, 2017, at his home.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 24, 2017, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 North Delaware Ave, Mason City, with Reverend Mark Lavrenz officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral on Friday at the church. According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded.

The family would like to suggest that those wishing to give a memorial in his memory, may wish to consider memories to the family.

Kurt Ellsworth Spencer was born on June 2, 1942, in Algona, the son of Ellsworth Elmer and Adeline Margaret (Wirtz) Spencer. Kurt attended school in Nebraska and Rake, Iowa.

He was united in marriage to his skating sweetheart Sandra Mae Powell, on July 28, 1967, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason City, and to this marriage two children were born, Jeffrey and Tammi.

During his life, Kurt worked maintenance for the city of Nora Springs, and other jobs before starting his own business, SeptiCare in Nora Springs and surrounding area. Growing up on a farm he also continued to enjoy working for area farmers.

Kurt could build anything he envisioned including his family home. Since he had a gift for fixing or repairing almost anything he was able and always ready to help friends and family.

Kurt enjoyed working with wood, leaded glass and leather. After retiring, Kurt enjoyed traveling, and full time camping for several years with his wife Sandy.

Spring always brought excitement for getting out the camper, campfires with family and friends, cooking over the fire and especially enjoying his grandchildren, whom he taught many things. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason City.

Kurt loved hard work, family, friends, camping, nature, the ocean and a good laugh. He was able to accomplish a lifelong dream of building a log cabin.

Kurt leaves behind the most wonderful memories with his wife of nearly 50 years, Sandra (Powell) Spencer, of Nora Springs, his children, Jeffrey Michael (LeAnn) Spencer and Tammi (Spencer) Kuhlers all of Nora Springs; seven grandchildren, Josey (Spencer) Mary, Jamie (Spencer) Shook, Levi and Dylan Shackleton, Sierra, Spencer, and Sydney Kuhlers; four great-grandchildren, Jerzie Uker, James Mary, Jacqueline Shook, and River Whitty; his siblings, Stan (Lisa) Spencer, Karry (Cynthia) Spencer, Michelle (William) Ingersoll, Lonnie (Lloyd) Knudson, and Robin (Jim) McKie. As well as many other relatives and friends.

Kurt was preceded in death by his parents, Ellsworth and Adeline (Wirtz) Spencer; and his mother and father-in-law, Ernest Edward and Loretta Adeline (Reich) Powell.
