Obituary for Lois R. Winkelman

Lois R. Winkelman, age 78, of Charles City died Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016, at First Congregational Church United Church of Christ, Charles City with Rev. Forest Cornelius presiding.

Interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City with Corey Schmadeke, Brian Schmadeke, Luke Pickar, Jared Johnson, Becca Pickar, and Samantha Flugge serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Jesse Johnson and Jayda Winkelman.

Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 7:00 pm. Friday, August 26, 2016, at Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church in Charles City on Saturday.

Lois Ruth Winkelman was born October 17, 1937, in rural Ionia, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard “Pete” and Ruth (Boggess) Trask. She attended school in Charles City and was a 1954 graduate of Charles City High School. After completing high school, Lois was employed at the local Dry Cleaning service in Charles City for a couple of years.

Lois was set up on a date with William Winkelman to the free show playing in Ionia. On August 30, 1956, the couple was united in marriage at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union; five children were born.

The couple moved north of Bassett where they lived for nine years. Lois and Bill then moved five miles west of New Hampton where they farmed and raised their children. Lois was an integral part of the farm for over 29 years. She helped with fieldwork and spent many hours on the tractor. She spent many hours tending to her garden, taking care of her home, along with raising her children. Lois took care of it all. They moved to Lois’s family farm near Bassett in 1994 where they lived for seven years before retiring to Charles City in 2001.

Lois enjoyed baking, cooking, painting, refinishing furniture, and gardening. She spent time fishing with Bill, and looked forward to going on fishing trips to Waterville, Minnesota. They enjoyed going to their children and grandchildren’s sporting events around the area.

Lois was an active member at the First Congregational Church in Charles City. She cherished spending as much time with her family as possible.

Lois is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bill; one son, Bruce (Kay) Winkelman of Charles City, Iowa; four daughters, Kathy (Steve) Otto of Charles City, Iowa, Sandy (Steve) Schmadeke of Clarksville, Iowa, Janet (Paul) Pickar of Riceville, Iowa, Brenda (Matt Beckman) Flugge of New Hampton, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Corey Schmadeke, Brian Schmadeke, Luke Pickar, Becca Pickar, Jared Johnson, Samantha Flugge, Jayda Winkelman, Paul Otto, Ashley Gracia, and Zach Eckheart; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Lester (Madonna) Trask of Charles City, Iowa, Vernon (Connie) Trask of Waverly, Iowa, Stan (Mary Ann) Trask of New Hampton, Iowa; one sister, Doris (Duane) Lynch of Charles City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Jesse Johnson in 2015.
