ROCKFORD, IOWA — Larry Ott, 80, of Rockford, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City surrounded by his family.
A funeral service for Larry Ott will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, at Bethany Alliance Church in Charles City with Pastor Steve Howe, Pastor Coulter Page and Pastor Bill McLeland officiating.
Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford at 2 p.m.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at Bethany Alliance Church and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Saturday.
Larry Dean Ott, the son of Roy and Easter (Hill) Ott, was born March 18, 1936, in rural Butler County, Iowa. He was educated in Rockford, graduating from Rockford High School in 1954. Larry began farming on the family farm during his senior year of high school after his father passed away.
On July 5, 1958, Larry was united in marriage to Sharon Whitt at First Christian Church in Mason City. The couple made their home on the Ott family farm where Larry continued farming and they raised their family. Larry and Sharon moved into Rockford in 1990 with the youngest of their five children, Jayne, still living at home.
Larry was a member of Bethany Alliance Church in Charles City. He enjoyed gardening, flowers, coffee with his friends and family gatherings. Above all, family and farming were the highlights of his life.
Living family members include his wife of 58 years, Sharon of Rockford; five children: Mark (Judy) Ott of Rockford, Brenda (Mike) Ritter of Clear Lake, Gwen (Dan) Girvan of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Todd (Donna) Ott of Rockford and Jayne (Brad) Rongitsch of Woodbury, Minnesota; 14 grandchildren: Ross (Heather) Ott, Carl (Traci) Ott, Anna Ott, Kayla Ritter, Eric Ritter, Becca Girvan (fiancé Matt Zellmer), Tim Girvan, Allison Girvan, Emily Ott, Lindsay Ott, Courtney Ott, Nathan Rongitsch, Megan Rongitsch and Emma Rongitsch; five great-grandchildren: Kelsey, Jacob, Olivia, Scarlett and Aria; two brothers: Richard Ott of Greene and Don (Dee) Ott of Clive; three sisters-in-law: Kathryn Ott of Mason City, Till Ott of Marble Rock and Louise Ott of Rockford; brother-in-law, Dean Abbott of Ridgeway; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Easter Ott; four brothers; and seven sisters.
