Obituary for Joanne Louise Lampe
Joanne Louise Lampe, age 81, of Lawler, Iowa, died Monday, March 28, 2016, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Frederika with Rev. Paul Nelson presiding.
Interment will be held in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Fredericksburg with Gary Lampe, Cindy Lampe, Julie Zeien, Calvin Meyer, Artie Havens, and Art Havens serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Mackenzie Zeien, Abigail Zeien, Parker Zeien, and Dixie Orthel.
Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Joanne Louise Ruth Lampe was born June 17, 1934, in Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of Leslie and Eldora (Mahnke) Parson. She was a 1953 graduate of Frederika High School. During her time in high school Joanne met Vernon Lampe, a young man a couple of years older than her. They were married December 28, 1953, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Frederika. To this union three children were born.
Shortly after marriage, the couple moved to Virginia where Vernon was stationed in the United States Army. Joanne and Vernon moved back to Lawler after his service was complete. The family spent time living in rural Fredericksburg before returning to Lawler. Joanne worked for several years at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Sumner.
She then took a position at Sara Lee in the sanitation department. She ended her career working for Chickasaw County, retiring in 2015, after 20 years of service.
Joanne enjoyed going to the casino even when the big winnings didn't come her way. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and always looked forward to the holidays when everyone would get together.
Joanne is survived by her husband of 62 years, Vernon; son, Bruce (Betty) Lampe of Ionia, Iowa; daughter, Brenda (Arthur) Havens of Ionia, Iowa; four grandchildren, Cindy Lampe, Gary Lampe, Julie Zeien, and Artie Havens; three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Zeien, Abigail Zeien, and Parker Zeien; son-in-law, Raymond Blong of Waucoma, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Cora Parson of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, Donna Mae Meyer of Fredericksburg, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Barbara Blong; step-mother, Bertha Parson; four brothers, John, Duane, and Kenneth Parson, Roger Perry; sister, Lorraine Parson; several aunts and uncles.
