Edwin Leo Brunsting was born January 6, 1933, in Hull, Iowa to Luke and Rosena (Douma) Brunsting. He graduated from Hull High School in 1951 and from Morningside College in 1955. Ed attended Drake University and received his Master's Degree in Biology. On December 29, 1955, he married Shirley Miersma in Hull, Iowa. They moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he served in the Army from 1956 to 1958. Shirley passed away on August 5, 1971 and Ed concentrated on raising his three children until 1987 when he married Lyneen (Dana) Borchardt.

Ed was employed as a chemistry, biology and physics teacher in West Bend, Iowa in 1960. In 1967, he moved to Charles City and was employed by Salsbury Laboratories as a Research Chemist where he remained until retirement in 1995. Ed was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He enjoyed spending winters in his home in Apache Junction, Arizona, but loved spending as much time as possible with his family.

Living family members include his wife of 29 years, Lyneen (Borchardt) Brunsting, of Charles City; his children: Brent (Mary) Brunsting of Mason City, Vicky Borchardt (Don) Semelhack of Mora, Minnesota, Lisa Brunsting of Coralville and Scott Brunsting of Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Dan (Katie) Semelhack, Shara (John) Klesath, Amy Semelhack (fiancé Bryant Johnson), Andrew (Janine) Brunsting, Tyler (Morgan) Brunsting and Chase (Carrie) Johnson; four great-grandchildren: Max, Sophia, Ollie and Teddy; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosena and Luke Brunsting; five brothers: Ted, Gerald, Vern, Harvey and Al; one sister, Ann Plantage; and his first wife, Shirley.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of North Iowa and/or Floyd County Cancer Friends.
