Obituary for Helen O. Blunt

Helen O. Blunt, 109, of Mason City, died Tuesday morning, May 3, 2016 at the Nora Springs Care Center.

She has graciously donated her body through the Mayo Clinic Anatomical Bequest program in Rochester, Minnesota. Graveside services will be held next year following her cremation, at Riverside Cemetery, Charles City. Helen was born on January 12, 1907 in Des Moines, Iowa the daughter of Merrick Bradley and Ella Elizabeth Haskin. She graduated from the Charles City High School with the class of 1924. She then attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake for two years.

On September 14, 1940 she was united in marriage to Arthur W. Blunt at New Hampton, Iowa. To this union was born one child Karen. She was a resident of Rolfe, Iowa for 12 years, then Charles City for the next fifty years and in Mason City since 1969. While in Charles City she was a Reporter for the Charles City Press and then was employed as a Clerk Typist and Bookkeeper for other businesses.

Helen was a 50 year member of Pythian Sisters Lodge in Charles City, A member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Mason City, Women AARP, Friends of the library, a Past president of the Charles City Women’s Club, Charter member of the Iowa Press Women and a former member of Business and professional women. Helen was an avid reader and gave many book reviews in years past. She was a lover of music, collecting sheet music popular since the early 1900’s.

Helen is survived by her daughter Karen, Nora Springs, and was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Menswell Haskin.
