Florence “Betty” Elizabeth Finch, 97, formerly of Charles City, died Monday, March 21, 2016, at Eagle Crest Assisted Living-Presbyterian Home in Roseville, Minnesota.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 1, 2016, with a one hour prior visitation at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt Street, Charles City. Reverend Jim Beranek from Trinity United Methodist Church will be officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Rudd.

Betty was born on November 17, 1918, in Blue Earth, Minnesota, to Robert Lloyd Pace and Adah Velvena (Hendrickson) Pace. She spent most of her childhood growing up in Rudd, Iowa; where she met the love of her life, Roger Finch, at a young age because he was also her next door neighbor.

On May 31, 1941 Betty and Roger were united in marriage. Shortly after Roger was deployed for World War II and Betty had to stay behind. She worked for a period of time at the post office in Rudd. Roger survived a serious injury; and when he was honorably discharged, the couple moved to Charles City and Betty worked a short time as a dental assistant. The couple called Charles City home for many years and eventually built a home along the Cedar River. Betty and Roger then retired and moved to Wisconsin and had a home on Round Lake in Hayward for 18 years and then moved to Minnesota to live near two of her children.

To their union five children were born. Betty became a full time homemaker and caretaker. She was a wonderful mother. Education was extremely important to her; which is why she taught Sunday School and also encouraged her two daughters to go to college.

For enjoyment she loved reading mystery and historical fiction. Betty tracked every book she ever read. She was also a hand quilter and avid flower gardener. Together Betty and her husband enjoyed golfing and dancing. They both had a sense of humor and teased each other at times. After retirement the couple traveled together to Spain and wintered in Padre Island. Betty will be remembered for her willingness to always give to others and the compassion she had in her heart.

Those left to cherish her memory include five children: Robert (Sherry) Finch, Ronald (Jeanie) Finch, Patricia Finch Guthrie, Penelope (Dock) Cleveland and Richard (Ann) Finch; 12 grandchildren: Kristin Finch, Jennifer (Chris) Pierce, Michael (Jennifer) Finch, Ryan Finch, Eric (Jen-Marie) Finch, Susan (Drew Padrutt) Finch, Shelley (Charles) Rayborn, Jermaine Guthrie, Patrick Moyers, Nathaniel (Tina) Moyers,, Lauren Finch and Marie Finch; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roger Finch in 2001; parents, Robert and Adah Pace and son-in-law, William Guthrie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The American Heart Association or Alzheimer’s Association (Minnesota/North Dakota Chapter).
