MARBLE ROCK, IOWA — Funeral services for Mike Parker, 91, of Marble Rock, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 8, 2016, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marble Rock with Pastor Bob Scheurer officiating.

Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock, with Military Honors conducted by Stroud Gates Post 387, American Legion of Marble Rock.

Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, at Retz Funeral Home, 519 N. First St., Greene, and will continue at the church one hour before services on Monday.

Kenneth Wilbur Parker was born on August 3, 1924, in rural Marble Rock, Iowa, the son of William Arthur and Daisy (Brown) Parker and died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs, Iowa. He attended public school, graduating from Marble Rock High School in 1942.

Mike Parker was an honest man with a good work ethic. He worked for Oliver Farm Equipment Company as well as on the family farm after high school. On January 9, 1945, he was inducted into the United States Army. Mike was honorably discharged on December 5, 1946.

Mike returned home to the family farm after the service. He and his brother began farming together. Later Mike rented land from his brother Edgar and set up his own farming operation.

Mike was united in marriage to Renee Hencken on August 25, 1955, in Austin, Minnesota. This union was blessed with two children. Mike continued to farm until his retirement when he built a home and moved into Marble Rock in 1983.

Mike was an avid fisherman and hunter that loved to spend any available free time enjoying the outdoors. He would fish at the Marble Rock dam every day, even when his family thought he should not risk falling. He hunted for mushrooms and enjoyed dancing and listening to Big Band music.

Living family members include his children, one daughter, Pam (Marc) Clough of Marble Rock, and one son, Philip (Darla) Parker of Rockford; grandchildren: Christopher (Meagen) Staudt, Greene, Jordan Staudt, Seattle, WA, Michaela Staudt, Dumont, Wesley Parker, San Antonio,TX, Erika Parker, Rockford, Kylie Parker, San Diego, CA, Kalen Parker, Jefferson; two step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren; one sister: Billie VanTuyl, Greene; one sister-in-law, Janice Hencken, Huntington, IN; many nieces and nephews.

Mike is preceded in death by his wife Renee; siblings: Dorothy Merfeld, Ed Parker, Gail Kammeyer, Russel 'Barney' Parker, Roy Parker and Helen Parker (in infancy).
