Dean Craig Riden, the son of Leslie and Odis (Pals) Riden, was born October 30, 1943 in Charles City. He attended and graduated high school in Charles City and his first job after graduation was with Bud Moltz. Dean worked at Oliver/White Farm for 29 ½ years. He also worked at John Deere for a short time and did some building construction after that. Dean farmed, raised hogs and was employed at Ray's Pastime. He was definitely a 24/7 kind of guy.

Dean was also employed at Cambrex for 10 years and did some work in The Halter Shop as a hobby. Once he retired from Cambrex, The Halter Shop became a full time job for 13 years. Dean was a Jack of all trades: he was barber for friends and family, a wood craftsman, auctioneer and he would try just about anything with his hands. He loved big and small tractors with all his passion and could rebuild a tractor blindfolded because he knew them so well. The one job that he did from his heart with great passion was being Santa. Dean touched many people's hearts from young to old for 25 years.

Dean was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City and was very involved with the church on a daily basis. If there was ever any help needed, he was sure to be there.

He was a member of the Floyd County Historical Museum and involved with the Floyd County Fairgrounds. As a young man in high school he was a member of the FFA and a past President. Dean loved his yard and there wasn't a weed in it. In later years, he and Sarah enjoyed a small garden for fresh vegetables.

Living family members include his wife of over 33 years, Sarah; two children, Dan (Denise) Riden of Charles City and Jill (Steve) O'Dea of Pensacola, Florida; four grandchildren: Lindsey Riden (Dave) Sargent, Cassidy Riden, Donovan O'Dea and Payton O'Dea; two sisters, Marge (Rodney) Burnett of West Des Moines and Ileen (Duane) Jerdee of Charles City; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; his parents, Leslie and Odis Riden; and one grandbaby.
