MASON CITY, IOWA - Wayne Allen Leegaard, 72, of Mason City, passed away Monday, November 30, 2015, at Heritage Care Center in Mason City.

A graveside service will be held 3:30 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 2015, at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Chaplin Ed Bard of Hospice of North Iowa officiating.

Memorial contributions can be directed to Heritage Care Center in Mason City, Iowa.

Wayne was born June 6, 1943 in Albert Lea, Minnesota, son of Kenneth and Eleanor (Walswick) Leegaard and was one of two children. Wayne worked on the family owned slaughter plant in his younger years. He worked at Oliver in Charles City for 18 years, and really enjoyed his career there. Before retiring due to health reasons, Wayne worked for Armour in Mason City.

Wayne met Mitzy in 1986, and they enjoyed traveling North to go fishing, which became a family tradition throughout the years, and also teaching his children to fish in the local rivers.

Wayne is survived by his special friend/partner, Mitzy Nedved; four children, Cherry (Rick) Hutzel; Patty (Scott) ReCupido; Charmin Heimer; Gary (Kendra) Leegaard; seven grandchildren, Sarah (Evan) Steere; Allyson (Jeremy) Eisentrager; Katherine (Vic) Wolf; Jamie (Josh) ReCupido; Sydney Coblentz; Clayton Leegaard; Kenzie Leegaard; five great-grandchildren, Logan, Blake, Joe, Ethan, Norma; sister, Carol Callow; nephew, Brian (Jennifer) Callow; special friend, Mike Dixon and many extended family members and friends.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, two great grandsons, Emmett and Elliott.
