Charles D. "Chuck" Thomas, 81, of 308 9th Avenue, Charles City, died Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City of pneumonia.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Pastor Bill Odermann will officiate. Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City following the service.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at Hauser Funeral Home, and will continue an hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.

Chuck was born on 9th Avenue in Charles City on January 12, 1934 to Floyd O. and Leone B. (Gray) Thomas. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1952 and from Gates Business College in Waterloo in 1953. In 1953, he accepted employment at Dr. Salsbury's Laboratories in Charles City in the marketing department. Chuck continued working there for 43 years, next in the General Office and Credit Management, and later in Human Resources.

His employment was interrupted for two years with a U.S. Army tour of duty in Germany from 1954 to 1956. Chuck and Arlene Beck were united in marriage on August 4, 1956 at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. He was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and AMVETS.

He is survived by his wife, daughters, Jayne (Rick) Hall, Barbara (David) Litterer, sons, Scott (Marcia) Thomas, and Steven Thomas; grandchildren: Desiree (Dane) Embury, Kelly (Brett) Behrends, Vanessa Hall (Jason Nigg), Thomas (Caroline) Litterer, Laura (Simon) Campbell, Zachary Thomas, Molly Thomas (Derek Schlader), Jackson Litterer, and Taylor Thomas, great-grandchildren, Hudson and Harper Behrends; and a sister, Helen (Glenn) Marrs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew, Richard Marrs, and many family members and friends.
