Obituary for Ruby Della Krueger

Ruby Della Krueger, 96, of Charles City, died Friday, November 20, 2015 at 11th St Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City. Online condolences may be left at www.fullertonfh.com.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm with a one hour prior visitation at the Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall, 605 S. Iowa Street, Charles City, on Saturday, December 12, 2015. A private family burial will take place prior to the service at Riverside Cemetery.

Ruby Della (Smith) Krueger was born February 3, 1919 in rural Floyd County, Iowa. She was the eldest child of Bill and Anna (Rodamaker) Smith. However, George and Effie Gatton raised her from about her first birthday. She attended School in rural Mitchell County and rural Floyd County. Ruby entered the then Floyd Consolidated School in the third grade, graduating from high school in 1936. While in school she was active in band, glee club, and dramatics.

After graduating from high school she went home with an aunt who lived in Long Beach, California. While living there World War II started and Ruby Della got a civil service appointment and worked in transportation with the Navy at the U.S. Dry Docks on Terminal Island. During this time she also pursued to further her education at the Long Beach City College and took up the study of Office Machines. After the civil service wartime appointment was ended she came back to home base in Iowa.

In Iowa she married Raymond Krueger. This union ended when Ray passed away in 1967. Ruby Della worked at Salsbury Laboratories for 18 years. She took on early retirement and traveled. She enjoyed traveling and traveled to almost every state; including some of Canada, Nova Scotia, Key West, and Mexico. Ruby Della wintered in Texas and Arizona a few winters. While she was in Phoenix, Arizona she worked at telemarketing. Deciding Iowa was not too bad after all she worked as a receptionist for Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City. Ruby Della worked there a few years and decided to quit shoveling snow to get to and from work and retired again.

She loved being able to stay home and do fancy work like crocheting and quilting. Ruby Della also took neighbors to their doctor and dental appointments. She studied the bible and became baptized as one of Jehovah’s witnesses on July 4, 1987. She was very zealous about showing others what the bible says.

Those left to cherish her memory include several nieces and nephews; who she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Krueger; parents, Bill and Anna Smith; the Gatton’s; brothers, John and Robert Smith; and sister, Irma King.
