Found in the 1920 census living at Portland, Cerro Gordo, Iowa living with his mother and grandparents: F G Smith 57, Mary Eliza Smith 48, Murl G Smith Jr. 26, Lyle Rex Smith 16, Ardath Ronald Smith 4, Elgar Leroy Smith 7, Lora Margarette Smith 6, Estella F Smith 31.

Found in the 1930 census at Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa: Estella F Smith 43, Elgar L Smith 17, L Margretta Smith 16, Ardath R Smith 14.

Ardath married Ilene Marjorie Dahley on September 3, 1938 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa.

The couple had 2 children: Dennis LeRoy (b January 31, 1939 Mitchell, Iowa) and Sheryl Jean (b October 1, 1941 Mason City, Iowa, d December 18, 2006 Portland, Oregon).

Found in the 1940 census at Nora Springs, Floyd, Iowa: Estella F Smith 53, Ardith R Smith 24, Ilene Smith 22, Dennis V Smith 1, Peter Refslahl 55.

Ardath served with the US Army from 1945 to 1946. The family lived at Charles City, Iowa and later moved west to Oregon.

Ardath R Smith died October 10, 1958 at Coos, Oregon.

He is buried at the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, Coos Bay, Coos, Oregon.
